Hello, I'm Abigail

I’m a PTUK registered Play Therapist working in both schools and private practice. I am based in Maidstone, Kent and I’m also a mother of one.

I have an academic background in Early Childhood Studies and have experience working therapeutically within mainstream schools as well as a teaching assistant and a 1:1 SEN support.

Mental health is something I have always been passionate about and whilst studying for my degree, I became fascinated with the power of play and its healing properties for young children. Through play therapy I am able to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment in which they can feel empowered. I feel so privileged to make a difference to young children and to work alongside and support both parents and their families.

I recently featured on BBC Radio to discuss the importance of play for children's wellbeing- listen here

My method of working

I work using a child-centred, holistic approach. I place strong emphasis on creating a supportive and accepting environment in which children can express themselves freely through their play. I strive to understand each child's feelings and perspectives allowing them to feel heard and validated. I work using a non-directive approach, this means I do not direct the child's play or behaviour. Allowing the child freedom to make choices on how they spend their time increases their autonomy and self-expression.
