My Services

1:1 Play Therapy sessions

Individual play therapy sessions will usually take place within the child's school setting. Sessions are held for 40/45 minutes, on the same day at the same time each week to ensure a consistent approach. An initial block of 12 sessions is offered but will be reviewed around week 7. The sessions can be more long term depending on the child's need and referral reason.

Group Play Therapy sessions

Group play therapy sessions follow a more semi-structured plan, however are still child led. They offer the same boundaries and consistency as the 1:1 sessions. Group play therapy provides opportunities for children with similiar difficulties and experiences. Groups can be focused on friendships/pro social skills, low self esteem, transitions or loss. A group consists of 4-6 children, and lasts a duration of 6-10 weeks. Group sessions usually last 50-60 minutes.

What to expect

  • First we will have an initial phone call to discuss services, and see if play therapy is a suitable intervention for the child.

  • 1:1 meeting to answer any further questions, complete a strengths and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ), sign an agreement and consent form for the therapeutic work to take place. We will discuss the nature of the child's difficulties and their behaviours, as well as your family history and background. We will also discuss hopes and expectations for the work.

  • After week 7, a review meeting will be carried out to discuss the child's progress, their progress in the room and any shifts seen, as well as to complete another SDQ form, and answer any questions. At this point we will discuss if there is a need to continue the sessions or if we will work towards an end at 12 weeks.

  • At the end of the sessions, we will have an end meeting to discuss the child's progress over the course of our time working together. I will gain another SDQ form, and an end report will be written up and provided to you on completion.

Play is the child's natural medium of self expression.                                                                                                                         -Virginia Axline
